Basic Terms
Virginia-Founded as a state June 25,1788, Bordered by Maryland to the North, The District of Columbia to the North, North Carolina to the South, Tennessee to the Southwest, Kentucky to the South,Southwest and West Virginia to the Northwest
Southwest Virginia-A mountainous region of Virginia in the westernmost part of the commonwealth
Emory & Henry College- A small liberal arts college located in Emory, VA and founded in 1836 by the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church
History-recording, and analyzing of the past through primary and secondary sources
Primary Source- written at the time of the event
Secondary Source- written as a summary of primary sources 
Pre-history-Information that pre-dates the written word gleaned from archaeological study
Structure- What people are doing. How do they make a living
Infrastructure- Who has power in the community.
Superstructure- What people believe
